The Department of Health and Social Care aims to deliver world-class treatment and recovery services for people who use drugs and alcohol over the next decade via the Treatment and Recovery Portfolio.
Local Authorities are receiving enhanced funding for interventions designed to achieve this goal over three years from 2022/2023. Local Authorities select interventions to meet local needs from a list provided by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities covering ten areas including treatment capacity, workforce competency and size, and residential rehabilitation and inpatient detoxification.
We are conducting a set of evaluations relating to the Treatment and Recovery Portfolio:
- An overarching process evaluation of the Treatment and Recovery Portfolio using a whole-system perspective.
- Evaluations of priority areas or newly developed interventions for which there are evidence gaps:
- The Housing Support Grant
- The Workforce Transformation Programme
- The inclusion of Lived Experience Recovery Organisations in treatment and recovery
- Service integration (mental and physical health services with treatment and recovery services)
- Provision of depot buprenorphine
- Value for money and impact
